What Is Penile Lengthening Surgery?
Penile lengthening surgery is a form of surgical penis enlargement. Surgical procedures that are done to enhance either the size or appearance of the penis are known as phalloplasty. It’s not uncommon for men to be concerned about the length or girth of their junk compared to other men. When you have questions on this topic, it’s not always easy to know who to ask.
If you’re considering penis enlargement surgery in NYC, Dr. David Shokrian and Dr. Mohamed Elfar of Penile Enhancement Center of New York can help. These doctors have in-depth knowledge and experience in the field of penile enhancement and can answer your questions during a discreet online consultation.
Are There Different Types of Penis Lengthening Surgery?
After talking with your Manhattan plastic surgeon and letting him know your goals and expectations, you talk about the different types of penile lengthening surgery that can be done to create the appearance of a longer dick. Some of the procedures from which you can choose include:
- Suspensory ligament division. Also called ligamentolysis, this is a procedure in which the suspensory ligament that attaches the penis to the pubic bone is cut. After the procedure, your junk hangs lower, giving it the appearance of being one to two inches longer.
- Penuma® implant. For this procedure, a medical grade silicone implant is inserted under the skin of your unit to make it longer and wider.
- Fat transfer. This is usually done for penile girth enhancement but it may also make your dick appear longer. It’s done by doing liposuction to remove fat from another part of the body, processing the fat and injecting it under the skin of the penis.
- Pubic lift, called a monsplasty. This procedure is done to remove fat and hanging tissue from the mons pubis, the area above your junk. This makes the flaccid penis appear longer and more visible.
Most procedures are done on an outpatient basis, and you recover at home. The specifics of your particular surgery depend on your individual needs and goals. Increasing the length and girth of your member can be combined into one procedure, or your surgery can focus on just one or the other.
Who May Need Penile Lengthening Surgery?
Men seek penile lengthening surgery for both physical and psychological reasons. In many cases, it’s done to correct functional and structural problems. Several conditions and physical reasons that may drive you to consider penile lengthening surgery include:
- Micropenis. A micropenis is a penis that’s atypically small. In an adult with this condition, the penis is less than 2.75 inches long when flaccid and stretched. This is a rare condition that’s usually diagnosed at birth.
- Small penis syndrome. Men with small penis syndrome don’t have a penis that’s outside normal range but they’re anxious or embarrassed about its size. It’s considered a form of body dysmorphic disorder, which means that your perception of the appearance of your body is abnormal, but it causes you extreme stress.
- Trauma, infections and previous surgery may cause penile dysfunction or shortening, which may require reconstructive surgery.
- Hidden or buried penis. Excess skin in the pubic region causes the phallus to become hidden or buried. When excess skin or fat is removed from the pubic area, it allows your member to become more visible.
- Aging related penile volume loss. Older men may experience a decrease in penis size and functioning. There may be some improvement when treated with hormone therapy or medication, but if there’s no improvement, surgery may be considered.
You may have functional difficulties with your member that make you a good candidate for surgery. Functional problems include being unable to urinate while standing up or being unable to have penetrative sexual intercourse.
Are There Options for Non-Surgical Penis Enlargement?
Your Midtown Manhattan doctors offer options for non-surgical penis enlargement. These procedures may be a good choice if you’re interested in obtaining a thicker penis, but aren’t sure you want to go through surgery. Non-surgical options include:
- Penile fillers. Fillers such as hyaluronic acid are injected into the penis shaft to increase girth and overall shape on a temporary basis. This approach is non-invasive and can be done quickly, usually in an hour or less. Even though injections of fillers are done primarily to increase girth, the flaccid penis may get longer due to added volume. Dermal fillers dissolve naturally in the body, and the procedure can be reversed if you’re unhappy with the results.
- Permanent fillers. Permanent fillers such as PMMA and Ellansé support increased girth by stimulating collagen production. This leads to a permanent increase in thickness.
- Filler maintenance and touchups. Treatment with fillers such as hyaluronic acid provide temporary results that may last from a few months to more than a year. This treatment may require touchups after about a year.
- Glans size concerns. If you’re concerned about the size of the glans on your penis, which is the rounded, sensitive tip, dermal fillers may help the glans to be more aesthetically appealing and more proportional. Another option is glans enlargement surgery.
Non-surgical options are minimally invasive so there’s little chance of infection or complications. Some men prefer non-surgical options since they don’t involve cutting or scarring, and there’s very little downtime.
Is There a Long Recovery after Penis Lengthening Surgery?
The amount of time needed to recover after penis lengthening surgery depends on the specific procedure you have, but recovery usually takes a few weeks. Some things to expect after surgery include:
- Post-op instructions. Your surgical team provides post-op instructions, which should be closely followed. There may be a dressing that needs to be changed at intervals specified by the doctor.
- There may be some short-term swelling and discomfort. Your NYC plastic surgeon may prescribe medication to make you more comfortable. Ice packs help reduce swelling.
- Avoid sexual activity, heavy lifting and physical activity for the amount of time recommended by your doctor. Full healing may take between two and four weeks or a bit longer.
Expect to take some time off from work to allow yourself to heal. It’s also a good idea to rest and wear loose-fitting clothes for at least a few days.
